So why have I not updated in three months and one day? I swear I started intending to update this at least once a week. I'm sure I'm not the first person to fail at that goal. In the past three months I had a miscarriage, finished up a busy semester and graduated with two B.S.'s, and looked for, bought, and moved into a new house. So most of the time I've been either too depressed or too busy to even think about working on my journal. But things have calmed down, so I'm back again.

Here I am with only a 30 hour per week job and no school to worry about. I actually have time, and it's a strange feeling. So yesterday I did something I haven't done in ages. That's right, I went to the library. And not the university library either. Usually when I go there, it's for school, and even when it's not, all the books I want have mysteriously disappeared from the shelves. No, I went to the public library.

I remember summers when I was a kid, my brother Brett and I would go to the library about once a week and each bring home a huge stack of books. We'd run through them ravenously and be ready to check out another stack the next week. I know we did other stuff too, but often it seems like we didn't do a whole lot else. The members of my family tend to be big readers. I think my husband, who also loves to read but is much more active, doesn't quite understand us. I enjoy having a bit more of a life and some other hobbies, but boy do I miss going to the library.

Now it's not like I haven't been reading books lately, its just that every time I wanted to read something, it was sort of on a whim rather than something I actually had time to plan for. That means I usually ended up in front of the bookcase at home looking for something or other to read for a little while. Usually at this point my husband would jump up and suggest a few (at least twenty) books that he thought I should read. My husband has a lot of fantasy books, which was never a favorite genre of mine. My brother used to read them all the time when we were both at home, and I always thought he was pretty weird. So over the past few years I've been talked into reading many fantasy books, and have actually grown to appreciate them more. It's just that I'm sick of them right now. When watching movies, I tend to prefer dramas over action films or romantic comedies. I tend towards that direction in books as well. Every now and then I want to sit down and read some good literature and be challenged a little rather than just entertained.

So I got two books by John Irving, whom I've always wanted to read but never have. I also got three books by Terry Pratchett. For those of you who know the author, you'll know that those are purely entertainment. It's going to be a nice summer.

To celebrate the season, here's a picture for you.

Happy summer, all.
